Instrument Leadership

Jim

OID (operations) has asked for SA help to prioritize efforts on the summit. This includes guiders.

  • Resources to work on instruments--especially to reduce faults or other lost time on-sky

  • Opportunity to demonstrate technical leadership

  • Raise internal visibility for the group

Start with LRIS: What do we want to do?

  • Does this overlap with Marc’s KNIT system? eMaint?

  • Tie tasks in KNIT to how we measure them?

  • Resources: engineer time, technician time, and OPS has $$$$

  • Focus seems to be on lost time at night as that is easily quantified

  • Guiders are a part of this

  • Percy showed draft info for LRIS

    • Had metrics for lost time (from Grant)

  • Jim: there was a CI for automated guider checks

  • Josh Walawender to tidy up KNIT board (tags for instruments)

  • Jim Lyke to talk to Marc Kassis about checking schedule, verifying instrument engineer schedule availability, and possibly making it more frequent

  • Jim: lets make sure we know what problem we’re solving with this

AO Restrictions

Jim

  • No personnel on top of or underneath either AO bench

  • OMP firm found that bench is not rated for the load we have it loaded at (about 2x)

  • There is some dead weight, but not half

Guiders at end of night

Jim for Carolyn

  • VWA at end of night includes whether guider is still exposing

    • Do we care if they are left exposing?

    • Probably doesn’t hurt anything
