  • Review support matrix

  • If Josh and Sherry have limited availability next semester due to KPF, that makes K1 somewhat thin

  • KPIC is not facility so “none of us need to support it” (smile)

  • We didn’t offer KPIC, but there are proposals for it

  • KPIC team will support those, we support PyWFS

    Flexible telescope scheduling

    Randy

Discuss ideas on, engineering nights, give back science, director’s discretionary time, fast track science, etc.

    • Struggle with Eng time process

    • Each month we scramble to make best use of Eng nights

    • Is there a better way?

    • John was wondering about DD time, no amount mentioned to Randy. Anticipating that JWST (and later Rubin) will add to need for DD time.

    ✅ Action items

    •
    • Will try to cover Safety Topics in each of these meetings

      • Did RSI/ergonomics last week

      • Traffic safety and driving is one of the highest risks

      • Keck vehicles now have GPS. Speed is monitored.

      • GPS allows us to check that OAs make it down safe in winter

      • Also tells where vehicles are for coordination

      • Also get speed data. Doesn’t look so good.

      • General trend is 10mph over speed limit

      • Please abide by speed limit and other traffic laws

    • Project update

      • NIRC2 upgrade led by Carlos

      • KPF FIU delayed, not spectrograph

      • Guider upgrades: proceeding with NIRES

      • KCRM, no updates

      • K1 Pier Repair: grout repair was planned, postponed until 23A. No 10 night shutdown in 22B. Shutdown night on July 5 on K1 to test thermal properties of pier. Followed by ENG night.

        • Test pour in visitor galley was inconclusive, so delaying pier repair to mitigate risk

        • May be further reduction of AZ slew speed

      • KPIC upgrade: changes to pyramid, now not science functional, still working on it, juggling schedule to work around it

        • Nem providing remote support

      • K1 KAPA: struggling with AO performance

      • Jim: K2 pupil image is out of focus … why?

      • LRIS Refurb: plan is coming together for FY23

        • Trying to determine full scope

        • planning 5 year time horizon

        • Randy: LRIS II will be fast tracked

        • Percy: preparing 2 plans (5 and 10 year replacement timelines)

      • 22B science schedule will be finalized by June 1, draft already circulated

        • Randy will be asking for block out dates so he can make SA schedule

Software workflow tools for DSI Translator development

    Josh

    • DSI/DDOI Translator development will commence soon. The rest of DSI is being done in git+GitHub. Since we will be involved in Translator development, do we have a strong opinion on whether development workflow should be in git (& GitHub?) vs. SVN?

      • e.g. Do development in git (or GitHub) and push releases in to the SVN repo or vice versa?

      • Note that git != GitHub

      • Worth considering what future developers will be familiar with

    • Want simple things to stay simple

    Observing Definition Tool

    Chien-Hsiu

DDOI team has prepared tutorials on how to use the observing definition tool and would like to ask SAs to try and give feedbacks. The videos are at:
    1. Creating ODTs https://vimeo.com/712247936/06fd839aa5
    2. Editing ODTs https://vimeo.com/712696608/b31443c907

To access the prototype observer portal, go to: https://www3.keck.hawaii.edu/observers/portal/rel/index.html
    with the password ‘testing’

    • Use your email and the pw above to log in to new observer login portal

      • Click pre-observing in side bar, then select ODT

    • Feedback in 3 weeks

    • Give feedback to Chien-Hsiu

    New IPM tool is eMaint

    Jim

    • replacement for IPM is live

    • Jim has requested SAs get training because “Instrument Master” owns a lot of tasks in the old system

    • George Hatcher has copied over all old IPM tasks, some may be out of date.

Jira board for software issues used by Scientific Software Group

    Kyle

    • Remind SAs that this exists

    • May need priorities added?

    • Randy: Could we review this board in this meeting periodically?

    • Randy: Operational software issues which need software resources can go on this list. Resources set aside to deal with these items.

    • Might need ECR or CI for some of these?
