A Uniblitz VED24 shutter controllers is located within the electronics drawer of the Vac Cart. This location was chosen due to a length restriction on the shutter cable between the VED24 and the shutter within the scrambler (Uniblitz said the maximum cable length was 30 ft). As such, the Vac Cart was close enough but the Aux Rack was a bit too far away.
The Scrambler Timed shutter is larger than the other shutters within the system, and as such requires different settings on its VED24 controller, as described below.

Note the setting for Switch 1 does not depend on the shutter type, but should be set to ‘UP’ for ‘LOCAL’ (this disables the USB port and enables the BNC Pulse Input):
Note also that there is also a toggle switch on the front that sets the ‘Normally Open’ or ‘Normally Closed’ polarity of the switch (second from left in image above). The manual is not clear on how this affects a bi-stable shutter. For consistency within KPF, all shutter controllers should be set to ‘N.O.’. Each KPF VED has a label on the front to indicate this, as show in the picture above.
