Remote control wish list for instruments

Remote Observing

Josh

  • Observer Login Page now has link for observers to upload ssh key

  • The API key is the important info observers need to add to local_config

  • Can still force an ssh key deploy, but 8 am cron will “unrelease” those keys not associated with scheduled observer

  • Association of ObsID to remote observing request is still manual

  • Here is the new staff guide for v2: /wiki/spaces/MOSD/pages/478740483

  • Provide Josh feedback on readme in new software on GitHub (dev branch) and on the above staff guide

Instrument Release

Luca

  • We need to finalize this effort, it has been discussed before and stalled near completion

  • Motivated by recent LRIS release requirements confusion

  • Support Techs did not know LRIS needed lengthy afternoon calibrations

  • Let’s finalize a table of info on instruments

  • Confusion came about because they thought they could not release LRIS until afternoon fill was done, but we don’t rotate, so there’s no conflict.

  • Support Techs would like consistent rules

  • Jim: Some of this is already in their procedures (including a 2pm instrument release goal)

Action items

  •  Instrument Scientists to solicit ideas for power distribution from relevant SAs for their instruments and send list to Josh before next SA meeting.
  •  Jim Lyke to collect the numbered official documents which inform the STs and we can review if we want changes.
