Agitator Controller

Introduction

The agitator consists of a motor with a rotating reel that taps against hanging loops of fiber. This continually changes the paths of the light rays through the fibers, thereby smoothing/homogenizing the output illumination of the fibers.

The motor is controlled by a Galil DMC-30012 controller.

Two temperature sensors are also connected to the Galil controller - one to measure the temperature of the motor, and one to measure the air temperature within the crypt.

Note that the Agitator temperature sensors are reporting values that are about 2x the actual temperature. We have not determined the cause of this yet.

The AD592 is powered by 12V (supplied by the Galil)
The AD592 outputs 1 micro-Amp / K.
The 10k Ohm resistor converts this to a voltage change (via Ohm’s law):

V = I*R
0.01 V/K = 1 uA/K * 10^{^4} Ohm

12 bit over 5V = 0.001 V per ADU;
AD592 gives 0.01 V per K;
So measurement resolution is:
0.1 K per ADU (OK for these sensors)
