SA involvement in DRP / DSI work

• FY23 planning: DSI will be doing more DRP work in '23. So far Chien-Hsiu is working on that, but may need other SAs.

• Not code development, but more in areas of testing and verification

• Jeff is PM for DSI, so talk to him if interested

• PypeIt is working on MOSFIRE, goal is to have it running in KOA by KSM

KVS program, planning forward to next round of scholars

• Restarted this year after pandemic in limited fashion, by invite only

• Want to go back to full call for proposals

• Need projects for scholars to see before call goes out

• Need to discuss Visa process in call for proposals if we are open to it

• KVSP operates on calendar year not FY.

• Many scholars come in summer/early fall

• Goal is to make call for proposals in late 2022 for 2023 CY

• AO development is getting more and more scholars, so would be nice to get more in to our group

• Scholar visit is typically 6-12 weeks

• Exciting to see hardware in hallway for KPF and KCWI being readied

• Will be circulating draft of science strategic plan to SSC this afternoon, then will circulate to SA group. Please don’t distribute.

• Organization Strat Plan is being drawn up now, goal is to merge main doc in about a month.

• Plan is to present summary at KSM

• NASA CAN renewed!!!!

• Waiting on decision about over guide: Staff here to help with DRPs.

  • NASA has “dumpster fire of FY23 budget”

• SCALES was awarded NSF MRI

• LIGER did not get MSRI, no info yet on why

• DEIMOS detector upgrade MRI proposal was declined, but we will do this, but will mean schedule slip

• HISPEC MRI was declined

• We got 1 out of 3 MRIs, which isn’t bad

• No comments yet, John says the program officer has a big influence which isn’t reflected in the comments anyway

• Cycle 2 proposal call comes out in November

• Worth thinking about Team Keck follow up possibilities

• We (Randy?) looked at high z candidate with NIRES, non detection increases odds that redshift is correct

• There is an opportunity here until cycle 2 is in play

WWW3 and instrument pages

• About a month ago, process to release public web pages broke, not sure why. The cron which copies to public server doesn’t work. Has to be done manually.

• www3 is new web server provided by DSI

• www3 is public NGINX page, not Apache like existing pages

• Software has page on web development which has details of systems

• Opportunity to move instrument pages to www3

• Can password protect pages using windows login (LDAP)

• Releasing web pages is via kdeploy

• Jeff has copy of instrument pages which work

• Jim: this is a project the size of a CI, do we need to worry about effort involved

• Josh: could we start version controlling contents?

  • Jeff: we can look in to this

• Josh: would we be able to build small flask apps? Yes

• Josh: might be able to link to grafana to show graphs? Maybe.
