1:06 | Words from Randy | @Randy Campbell | Blackout dates - first two months of scheduling will come out first including the Keck Science Meeting. Expecting the new SAs to go, but let Randy know if you are thinking about going. The COVID committee is being absorbed into the safety committee. Talk to Randy if there are any COVID related issues John Baldwin and Randy are working to refocus the weekly observatory meeting. It is one of the best meetings for cross-department communication (e.g. AC shut off during K2 shutdown). Grant: Can look up meeting charter/description. Fiscal Year planning hitting milestones including time allocations which could affect some projects. Marc and Randy updated whiteboard on instrument support duties including future instruments (SCALES, KCRM, KPF, etc.). Josh: Does KPF share any technology with LFC? Marc: Negotiations are ongoing between the different projects KPIC, KPF, and LFC. Since both combs are in the basement it is possible to pull the light to both telescopes. Marc: Need help with these projects. Many instrument deliveries in FY22. Randy: Also need to consider that KCWI will be offline for the KCRM, so KCRM will get priority over SCALES/LFC/KPF. Grant: KCRM work will be in K1 clean room and need scheduling with any pier work. Marc: Other instruments at early stages Liger, FOBOS, HISPEC, DEIMOS-U, WFI, LRIS2, etc. Jim/Marc: NSF more willing to fund things that have passed initial PDR. Trying to get things up to a 5-10% level before proposing.

1:38 | White Papers | @Marc Kassis | List of white paper submissions for June 2021 - 14 submissions Mini-grants @Jim Lyke @sherry yeh need independent review of previous OSIRIS work Phase-A (~200k request) KWFI, LRIS II, DEIMOS-U, ASM DEIMOS would fulfill the gap before FOBOS Concept development Included in the list is a new visible AO instrument concept study. Jim: A concept study my benefit from a lucky imaging study of the current system as a cheap experiment of what is possible. HAKA MRI white paper, SCALES MRI/imager white paper Discussion of the NIRES upgrade concept study
White papers are now being assigned to SSC to read. Marc is also looking for SA input. Future instrumentation suite could include 5-6 additional instruments without decommissioning current instrumentation. |
2:25 | dcs.DOMECAL | @Jim Lyke | IS commitments and reasonable completion dates to update instrument cal scripts to use dcs.DOMECALS keyword Should help to know both when cals are ongoing and finished, with the primary use in the morning as an indicatory for daycrew when observers walk away. Jim: A wrapper should be used for instruments with calibration scripts with multiple setups. To turn on the keyword when starting calibrations and off when ending. Kyle: Want the keyword to be set reliably before people start looking for it whether it is FACSUM or somewhere else. Carlos: Users may have their own scripts that need updating. Best to inform them during support. Jim: First step is to make sure that the calibration scripts work with the keyword. Then ask summit crew for how to make it visible. |
2:45 | Summit | Grant | Will be going to summit on Saturday for preventative maintenance. Let him know if anything needs to be looked at. |
