1:02 | Words from Randy | Randy | Will be attending meeting at 2pm for Emergency Management Meeting regarding Hurricane Douglas We should all be personally ready with an emergency kit. Flooding is risk here along with extended outages of water and power. Will consider preemptively closing operations at the summit. Council meeting today. Vacation liability came up. Has financial impacts. Worry that once “real vacations” are possible, many people will be away which could cause operational disruptions. Our group for the most part is in reasonable shape.

1:12 | 2 SAs on Split Nights? | Randy | Some instrument combinations are hard to cover Experience on a few nights of split support is “quite nice” according to Randy, but there are downsides If both observers are inexperienced, having two SAs would be helpful. Useful for SA training (see another instrument) or to refresh knowledge of an instrument Would be useful on 3 way split nights with more than 1 instrument Would on call pay be split? Yes. Will the use of split nights with multiple instruments increase with time? Likely. So this is a long term issue. Spreading the same work load over more nights is not appealing. Makes work/life balance much more difficult.

1:42 | How can we reduce support burden in 2021A? | Randy | Carlos: Fewer LGS, fewer split, fewer reconfigs all good. Carlos: VVC with inexperienced observers is difficult. Percy: Projects which improve night operations would be a good use of resources over projects which don't have immediate impact on operations. Would taking instruments off line make opportunities for improvements available? Maybe, but difficult. ToO? Likely won’t be GW events, so could limit ToO? Other solutions to ease burden that don’t affect science? Temporary help? Randy: restricting split nights, longer runs of particular instruments sounds like it will help

2:02 | Desired topics for breakout meetings at KSM? | Josh | Ideas for breakout sessions? last meeting: white paper discussions Setting up remote observing and how does it work?
|
2:06 | Feedback on Jira Service Desk | Josh | Greg: found it useful. Knowing when night is would be really helpful. Carlos: useful, but too many emails. Should we limit number of PJ mode observers? Advice your observers to use view only option as a way to limit crosstalk
|
2:18 | Open Discussion | | Need to clean up a lot of things at the observatory which are covered up by investments of SA time. Lack of SW support due to funding model of depending on projects Night operations is not the core of the organization’s efforts. Most of the org doesn't do anything related to it and doesn’t support or touch it directly.
