Words from Jim

Jim

  • FY 26 planning meeting later today

  • Jim is gone from Jun 11-30

  • Carlos delegate for the first week of his vacation, Greg takes over after.

  • UNO Phase II Readiness review - didn’t pass as a result from the AFP test plan not being finished. Moving into phase 2 and looking at the draft response plan (when to send people to the summit and who that would be).

  • UNO Phase II Dry run will hopefully capture some of the gaps in the response plan.

  • Instrument release to SA before instrument set to ready. Need to make sure we have a good checkout process in place before the daycrew leaves.

    • Q: DM3 checkout? - stowed and initialized.

  • Appreciate the POC responses

  • STAR Program - need representative from the SA group and find one thing to improve safety wise for the department

Hiring updates

Jim

Kittrin starts August 4th

Offer and verbal acceptance from Preethi. Once that is signed, the visa process can begin. Estimate for the visa is 4-6 weeks.

AO Updates

Max

K1 laser still shut down after the collision
Safety followup meeting from laser collision.

Confident in the short term fixes, some concern with the long term (sounds). Busy AO screen with all of the windows leading to complication.

Next scheduled laser night is Wed KAPA Laser Engineering - taking longer than K2 collision last time. Would need to submit target list tomorrow for Wed.

One of the upcoming projects is a PCS OS upgrade to “modernize” PCS which includes getting the software repo from TMT. We should consider adding a PCS instrument scientist and keep the knowledge in house.

Rosalie

Should we reach out to IT about making sure that computers being sent to the summit have all of the components that they need. This could be part of summit readiness plans and deployment plans.
Jim: Also, we should have network monitoring to understand why we have some problems, particularly related to UNO AFP and network shutdowns.
