• Had healthy discussion about OEM/SP the other day at SA Coffee

  • Looking at what projects could be removed or slowed down from FY22 and FY23 plans

  • KCRM needs to hit window due to KCWI off sky

  • Will be someone passionate about each project

  • Kyle: UNO was mentioned in meeting, why?

    • Because was put on “unspeakable” list

  • Randy: each of us take a look at FY22 and FY23 priority list projects and see which make sense to delay or stop

  • John: KPF team at SSL has limitations on duration, so KPF also hard to delay

  • Carlos: what is goal?

  • Randy: want to ensure we are successful

  • Percy: priorities from SSC?

  • John: no, but could get feedback on proposed changes

  • John: could be a case not of what we stop, but how to we de-parallelize people working. Should we be serializing instead?

  • John: would like to avoid the result of just deciding to do 10% less of everything. Make tough choices to delay or stop some things rather than trim everything.

  • Kyle: outsourcing to instrument build partners? Not just personnel.

  • John: this is a big focus over the coming months

• Proposal to renew the NASA CAN which is ~1/6th of operating costs

  • Due in 1 week

  • 5 year cycle

  • Major wrinkle is that head of Astrophysics Division is retiring, not clear if transition is before or after CAN decision.

  • Asking for over guide related to software

  • Need to organize a panel to review CAN proposal. Panel is advisory to APD head only.

  • Answer by Aug 24, possibly informal answer before

  • CAN expires March 1 of 2023 (during A semester)

  • Carlos: Planetary Science Decadal?

    • John: comes out next week. The call for proposal uses the Astro2020 decadal and the previous Planetary Decadal as the standards.

• Senior leadership spending a lot of time digesting OEM and debrief from facilitators

• Also HB2024 is major time investment

HQ Power Outage Procedures?

• Do we want a procedure for addressing HQ power outages

• Last time, overheating in computer room is what takes down operations by taking down network

• Can we get procedures which the on-site staff (and SWOC) can perform to extend uptime?

• Want computers, network, VOIP phones

• AFP did sense loss of communications would have performed closure if it were active

• Facilities and SysAdmin need to come up with procedures. Task for Randy.

• Kyle: should also examine other procedures posted which might be out of date

• Administrative Professional’s Day is 4/27. What do we want to get Shelly?

• Randy: looking to hire several new admin assistants to replace Gloria, Merlita

  • One of those areas will be for scheduling, remote obs, VSQ, etc.

On Site Observers

• Observers are returning to on site observing. In VSQ letter, they are reminded that they need to take Rapid Test which is provided in VSQ

• We will get that letter if we stay at VSQ, but can ignore. Don’t need to take rapid test.

• Asking them to wear mask if in same room as SA or OA. That is default, can choose not to if consensus.

• Percy: what happens if positive? They stay in room and isolate.
