KPF - 8 subsystems 3 spectrographs
Main spectrograph good RV precision over short time periods hitting 27 and 35 cm/s, want to see over longer time scales.
Thermal transients from LN2 fills, using autofill. Not using LN2 generator, using 180l dewars. Filling every other day, uses 60l a day.
FIU system is working well on bright stars, still needs some optimization. Ability to center star on fiber needs some work. 50 mas accuracy, currently at 200 mas.
ADC suffers from same centering problem.
This adds 15 cm/s to the error budget.
2 mechanisms with some flakyness.
Ca HK spectrograph seems good.
Exposure meter DRP is being refined, hasn’t been used yet to end an exposure.
Calibration bench is working well, but the fiber alignment needs some work with fiber steering.
LFC is not quite turnkey, but undergoing software update. Might need human check every couple days.
Solar calibrator is installed, but needs some electrical work to finish, hoping for the end of the month.
Software - 23 ktl services, 62 dispatchers, mostly done. Working testAll with Josh Riley’s script
Translator - work ongoing, running at night with equivalent of DSI OBs running locally. System used to run scheduled calibrations.
KPF grafana very useful for troubleshooting
Instrument GUIs 2 of 4 complete
kvnc is running, but not conk yet
Instrument webpage needs some work
-Carlos KPIC has experience with putting stars on fiber, maybe look at their design
-Randy DRP running? -Josh DRP is running, running local instance
-Randy - Morning twilight? -Sherry - Possibly use K1 morning twilight if not used by LRIS observers to monitor RV standards. If possible KPF team would jump on and perform the observations.
March 14th/April 8th for starting KPF observations
-Randy - is FIU / AO bench coordination working well? Yes, for the most part. Might be important for morning twilight.
If KPF warms up, can in cold in days, but the problem is that you reset your instrument stability.
