• Remote Observing Help Proposal. This is the proposed sequence of events (changes in bold):

  • The 30 day notice to PI reminds them to fill out remote observing request and specify observers.

  • The 15 day notice goes to PI, observers, and the SA (currently just goes to PI). This email thread can be replied to by all and is a good way to initiate contact with your observers and discuss plans.

  • The 15 day notice also contains instructions on at home observing (if needed). It directs observers to send questions and trouble with the remote observing software to the Remote Observing Service Desk (not to the SA).

  • SWOC for the day will be tasked with triaging those requests and assigning them.

  • This process tries to separate remote observing issues (for SWOC or remote observing experts) from observing preparation questions (which should go to the SA).

  • This plan requires some changes to the notifications sent to observers. There is also some hassle involved in linking the names in the remote observing request to emails. That is handled manually now (by Gloria), but we’re looking at better solutions for the future.
