1:17 | Keck Science Meeting | Randy/John? | Keck Science Meeting SA representative needed for SOC. Event date: September 15-16 at Caltech |
1:19 | Update on Observing Definition Tool Design Process | Josh | Image AddedJosh suggested to Jeff M. during DSI meeting to take a step back as a workflow in mind. Rather than submitting comments on the existing tool, give feedbacks on the workflow. ODT needs to have 2 main goals: 1. see all OBs in one place 2. edit or change OBs in detail want to dedicated significant portion of the screen to those goals. A big table providing high level of view to all OBs. Drop down buttons in the overview table to see/edit details of elements in an OB. Greg: can we have a list and sequences of pre-populated OBs. Josh: very solid suggestion, need to talk with s/w folks for details. Percy: visualization tools, e.g. see slit orientation on top of a finding chart. Josh: would be really nice to have these tools at hand (e.g. exposure time calculator), but needs to check if these tools fit in the budget. Taylor is working on a planning tool separate from ODT.
Randy: laying out observing plan like a log for simplicity. Thinking about how observers operate now; not only design ODT weeks in advance, but can operate in real time at night. Taking test exposures and modify ODTs. Josh: can prepare a short exposure into the sequence as a test exposure, and a long exposure as target. Having a separate table of targets, can fetch previous semester targets info into OBs without typing again.
Percy: It would be great to directly interact with DRP and link that with ODT/OB. Josh: it is possible.
Randy: one of the biggest difference is combining acquisition with observation in the ODTs. Josh: sounds scary but it is simple by explicitly spell out nuances (like off-set stars).
Marc: is it possible to download/upload OBs? Josh: yes. John: we want to be able to receive OBs from users without diving into ODTs.
John: needs to work more on Target Management. Each observer can have a database of Target in their keck observer login, and import those targets to ODTs. Advise to talk to Taylor soon, to avoid significant changes in the ODT design. |
1:43 | Review SW Ops issue JIRA list | Kyle | SWOPS Board Randy: nice to have a list with priorities, may need to work more on managing the priorities; can we use the list to assign tasks and communicate to S/W team? Kyle: Can assign tasks by creating a ticket; the Jira list does not hamper direct communication.
Percy: duplicate with ECR? Randy: small things or wishlist go to Jira list, major works go to ECR. Josh: Jira list can be useful to track progress. Randy: Take Jira list as an accounting record, review the listed items during SA meetings as needed.
