Words from Randy / Return to Operations
Randy
Plans for return to ops for K2 are taking shape. See Randy’s message in slack.
SA for the night on engineering nights should manage situation if many people logging in to Zoom and VNCs.
Go right in to science after ~1.5 nights of engineering (Saturday night includes science)
Summit activity? Evolving. 6 up yesterday. Max will be 8 for this “level 4” risk environment. Ramping up to 8.
Grant and Craig developed a “dashboard” with list of items to check on each telescope. Randy will share in slack.
K1 plan? Not definitive. Waiting to see if there are unexpected problems on K2. Will catch up on critical K2 PMs before turning attention to K1. K1 ramp up not before next week sometime.
What about cooling instruments? Dwight is developing plan.
Slit masks? Probably able to support in June.
Getting OK for limited use of HQ and VSQ and RemOps and SA offices. Email to hqserviceorders, gloria, vsq if you plan to use. No use of VSQ commons.
Keck 1 plans: sometime net week, it will get attention. Will do 2-4 nights of Engineering. Include KAPA, laser, OSIRIS upgrade, TRICK testing.
Check out HIRES and MOSFIRE?
Goal of science on May 25th (HIRES/OSIRIS-LGS split night).
Jim: lots of work has been done on new AO server on K2, untested on sky so far.

John
All staff on Thursday.
Manage expectations for return to science.

Slit Mask Emails
Carlos
DEIMOS on sky June 9. When should we re-enable the automatic emails about slit mask and configuration reminders?
Carlos will email PIs to warn them that they should plan on mask designs.
Then will tell Josh Riley to re-enable
12:10
Remote Observing
Josh
SAs should email their observers a few days ahead of time to let them know they may need to set up at home observing if they don’t have access to a remote observing site.
Use the policy from before shutdown (talk to Josh if questions).

Future of Remote Observing
Luca / Josh
“Genie is out of the bottle”. How do we put it back in?
John will take lead on communicating with community and indicate that “pajama mode” is for crisis only, not regular use.
Jim: Try to monitor instrument efficiency to see if it goes down due to user interface limitations.
Jim: Do we need a separate night log ticket category?
Luca: enable secondary observers in pajama mode? Primary is still at approved site? Slippery slope worries.
Will need to figure out when to disable SSH keys.
If there is demand, we can leverage that for funding?

Science Talks
Elena
Feedback?
Few WMKO staff to do science talks, will ask observers.
So far no speakers from other MK observatories.

Cron jobs, electronic logs, koa ingestion: making sure we don’t miss anything
Luca
What has been disabled? Make sure we bring things back up.
Slit masks discussed above.
KEOLA and KOA will be restarted.

Keck 1 restart
Randy
K1 restart is still up in the air.
May have to back fill some LRIS time.
May start before May 25 with another instrument.
May need to schedule support.
Does support schedule need to be reworked now that conference travel and vacation ravel may be cancelled?
There were some coverage difficulties
