Bench Isolator Motors

Bench Isolator Motors

Table of Contents:

Introduction

The optical bench within the vacuum chamber is supported by five vibration isolation pedestals. Typically these isolators have a hand-crank that can be used to adjust the height of each isolator mechanism and therefore level the table being supported.

For KPF, these five hand-cranks were replaced by vacuum-compatible stepper motors. This allows for remote leveling of the bench via computer control (while the bench is installed within the vacuum chamber).

Instructions for Setting the “Motor Off” Jumper

This jumper ensures the motors will not turn on when the Galil powers-up. This is especially important as these motors are a heat source within the vacuum chamber.
