Words from Randy

Randy

  • Randy will reserve a conference room for this meeting for future

    • Josh: try for Ed Stone for better zoom? depends on schedule

  • Would like to have a meeting to go around group each with 1 slide about their science interests to make other aware of what they are doing

    • Greg: maybe schedule on an off week for SA meetings?

  • Is anyone aware of status of Maunakea Scholars program? Interacts with Team Keck because CARA sets aside those nights, but UH also adds one night per year to Team Keck in exchange for us doing Maunakea Scholars. Randy will reach out to Mary Beth.

    • Carlos: took Io data last year, but planned press release didn’t happen?

  • Work from Home policies are still evolving. Largely successful, but remind everyone that WFH LOAR process is still in effect.

    • Carlos: sometimes last minute flexibility is good

    • Randy: LOAR not needed for support and other time flexible work, but if there is a block of WFH time, please submit that

    • Might help support the program to play by the rules

  • SA Lead is chance to raise topics in this meeting

Reminder: Team Keck deadline is April 11

Carolyn

https://keckobservatory.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/TEAM

  • Details in link above

  • Contact Greg with questions

  • Carlos: can’t find target management tool in observer login page, anyone else having problems?

    • Carolyn: only available in external version, not internal

  • Randy: Jeff and DSI team are revamping observer login page. Chance to clean it up.

  • Randy: John was thinking of grouping his time with TK to do larger project of some kind, perhaps with a JWST follow up theme?

    • Similar to previous TK redshift survey?

SSG reminder

Kyle

What can the Scientific Software Group do for you?

  • SSG is thinking of brainstorming session for CI projects and other ideas

  • Similar to last year

  • For all scales of project: small task, CI, major projects

  • Can help make the case for more effort (FTEs)

  • Randy: could lump things together to CI project

  • Kyle: Small amount assigned for ops now, could be bigger

  • Randy: good to have meeting with s/w to go over project ideas and current list of tasks/ideas

  • Could use this meeting slot

  • Jeff and Randy to try to schedule

SA Coffee Slot

Josh

  • Thoughts on SA coffee?

  • This is your regular reminder that these happen

  • Randy: could we have one day where we focus on joining?

  • Difficult with our variable schedules

Nightlog details

Jim

Request for more details in nightlog tickets.

Some of this is my lack of familiarity with LRIS/KCWI

  • “New” GUI won’t mean much in 2 years

  • Compass rose doesn’t come up, but apparently there are 2 versions in pull-down. Which was tried?

  • Kyle: in particular exact name of application would be useful

    • which computer

    • error messages in xterm or command line

  • Can come back and fill in details later after problem solved
