• Morale lunch on Aug 3 (calendar invite coming)

• Joseph Rounsaville will be coming to next meeting to talk about UNO

  • He is collecting instrument tasks

  • Come with ideas, he knows about our Confluence page

  • If we need more resources/support we can discuss

  • Trying to get things done by September

  • Then transition period starts, operating as if we’re in UNO, but with people on summit

• Director Search

  • Randy is on search committee

  • There are half a dozen or so reasonable candidates so far

  • Soft deadline is Aug 1

  • Committee will do interviews and provide board with a short list

  • Board will take it from there

  • Two committee members are on board, so there is overlap

  • Short list to board by November board meeting

  • Process is not blind

  • Diverse pool is a goal

  • Looking for technical, scientific, and administrative backgrounds/qualities

• TS Calvin fallout

  • AC was left off in domes, so humidities got high in domes

  • Test instruments to see if there are issues

  • Laser return last night was low, may be condensation on exit window

• Jeff Huber reported comms failed during storm

  • Text message did not go out

  • Distribution method no longer supported

  • Jim: was AC problem human error or procedure? Not sure

• Keck II primary mirror issue

  • Secondary mirror girdle servicing was deferred to get additional supplies

  • Should now happen at end of August during SegEx time

Remote Ops Layout

• Sent around top 3 layouts from OAs and SAs voting

• OAs want a consistent set of features, they don’t care about SA and observers

• Josh: videoconferencing mics are a challenging issue due to cord lengths

• Josh: what other uses do we want to plan?

  • Meetings during the day? (informal meetings don’t constrain layouts)

  • Intern desks (not important)

• Randy: events for donors and tours are another use

• Randy: during UNO, OAs will be in there more often during the day. RO is more of the OA domain.

• No plans to upgrade observer stations?

  • Carolyn: Jeff C is testing a new observer station

DSI NIRES Implementation

• Got OB templates in place

• Have NIRES scripts converted to Translator

• Using mock KTL system to check for errors

• Next steps

  • Test translator implementation with real instrument

  • Then test with dome lamps and telescope

  • Then test on sky

• Randy: who is doing what on DSI right now?

  • Jeff is PM, Tyler and Max have hours

  • JO rarely site in on technical minutia

  • Michael and Chien-Hsiu are SAs working on DDOI on NIRES

  • Josh on KPF, but not NIRES

• Guiding handshake is not testable during the day, would just test dither scripts without waiting for guiding

• Jim: can inject a fake star in magiq guiding stream

• Randy: will instrument scripts be available on any instrument xterm?

  • Tyler: will run on a DSI server
