Etalon Status Update
Nov 10, 2022 Based on C. Schwarb’s email on Nov 4, 2022.
Dwight and John V. may perform the first two tasks described below in the week of Nov 14, 2022, if they have time.
The Etalon is currently pumped and closed. The valve I used is the final version, and all metal seal valves can only be closed a small number of times. It has indicator marks, and every time you close it, you turn it another half indicator mark tighter than the last time. Currently, it sits on the very first mark. The manual of that valve is attached. Check pages 6 and 7.
On the exit port of the valve, I installed a CF16 to KF40 adapter, to make it interfaceable with the rest of your stuff. There is a KF40 Tee somewhere in the basement, and I know you have more of them, and also KF40 O-ring sealed valves. I suggest adding a Tee like last time to interface to a pump and the helium bottle, and possibly one of those O-ring KF valves in front (towards etalon) of it, so you can easily close the chamber off once it's filled with He and "burped". The all-metal valve needs a bit of care to close, can't do it quickly.
Self-explanatory, and the screws (plastic) are stuck to the panel with sticky tape. If you can, would you put some sticky tape over the gaps in the corners all around?
Because Julian did not get access to the control computer until very recently, these are not tuned up, which we need to really get on. The controllers are the two Vescent units sitting side by side in the rack on the right side of the cal bench. Cables go into the back - suggest pulling one controller out and having a look at how the channels are numbered.
The cables from the etalon are all labeled, as below.
Vescent 1 (left one):
CH1: Etalon 10k (10k thermistor glued into the etalon mount)
CH2: Bottom Int (bottom of the active shield)
CH3: Shield (tube of the active shield)
CH4: Top Int (top of the active shield)
Vescent 2:
CH1: Passive 10k (bottom of the passive shield)
CH2: External (external chamber heaters, all connected)
